Organised vs Tidy

Bright natural dining room nook with vases plates and fruits on the table.

Being organised and being tidy are not the same thing.

Let’s explain - in order for someone to say that they have an organised space, they must be able to:

  • have a system for how they choose and refine what they own

  • be able to state where things are kept or give each item a home

  • be able to show you where sets of similar items are, such as pens, important documents, underwear or shoes. These items are stored together and not scattered around the house in various places.

  • be able to state what they already own and use this knowledge when shopping for future items or when planning to declutter duplicates of similar items

If you have a space that is full of items that you don’t need or want, even if they have been ordered visually, then that space is not organised and those items are adding to clutter within that space.
